Check the Blind spots
Blind spots are those areas that are not seen by the driver because of the design of the vehicle, including mirrors, hoods, bumpers and pillars. These blind spots can cause accidents if you are not careful where you position your head or eyes.
Be sure look before you make any sudden braking or turning and check the blind spot with both the side view mirror and rear-view mirror. If you need to turn around in the middle of the road and don’t see anything behind you, pull over to the shoulder and stop. This will give you time to check the area before you continue.

Keep an eye on your children
Children can be unpredictable. They have no sense of danger and do not understand how fast moving vehicles can be. They are also often too busy playing in or around cars to notice that a car is coming when they run out in front of it.
Be very careful when driving near them if they are in or around your vehicle and watch for them when they are out of sight.
Drive slower in bad weather
In snowstorms, rain storms, fog and high wind, you need to drive very carefully. Be slow going in these conditions and avoid heavy winds, especially when you go up or down steep slopes.

Have proper tires and tire chains to keep your vehicle secure
Do not use chains in icy conditions. You should check your tire pressures regularly.
Avoid distractions
While driving, you should never take your attention away from the road. It could be dangerous to yourself or others on the road. Make sure nobody is texting while driving in your vehicle. Try to keep your conversations short and simple. Do not talk to other passengers or radio. If you have been awake all night and feel tired, take a break. Take a nap or stay home.
Don’t drink and drive
There are many reasons why you might want to consume alcohol before getting into your vehicle. Maybe you just got off work and are feeling nervous, happy, sad or angry.
Whatever the reason may be, make sure you aren’t drinking and driving. Alcohol can affect your driving skills. It can also lower your reaction time, and make you more likely to get into an accident. Drinking makes the brain think it has no energy left.
So, if you feel tired in the morning, try taking a nap or having some coffee instead of consuming alcohol. Also, don’t drink and drive! The consequences are serious.

If you are arrested for DUI – you could face jail time, higher insurance costs, a suspended license and even lose your job. It also puts you and others you may care about at risk. And, if you drink and drive, you could be charged with vehicular assault.
Always use your signal
When you drive a vehicle, you should always use hand signals to indicate which direction you intend to follow. For instance, if you intend to turn right, you must use your right arm to point in the same direction as your intended turn. Use the appropriate hand gesture according to where you are (left or right) and what you are doing (turning left or right).
Let passengers know when you are approaching a curve or downhill slope
Make sure you let everyone in your vehicle know when you are approaching curves or hills that are difficult to climb and descend. It’s best to warn people earlier rather than later so everyone knows how much time they have to prepare for a quick exit or to get ready to move up to the next level in the vehicle.
If you are driving a manual transmission vehicle, make sure you inform the passengers of the gearshift pattern for the upcoming hill or curve.
